Misleading offers and scams

As a result, we would like to warn you against misleading offers and attempts at fraud, which unfortunately are now sent to us almost daily by clients. Since trademark and patent registers, including all data on owners and representatives, are publicly available, certain companies try to make a profit from them, for example by:
  • Give yourself the appearance of an official letter, even in the naming, such as “German Central Register of Patents and Trademarks” or using the federal colors
  • offer you offers for an entry in a register; however, these are not official registers, but private databases of these companies with no apparent value
  • Make you offers to extend your intellectual property rights, some of which are actually carried out, but at a multiple price of our fees and often many months before this would be necessary on a regular basis
In some cases, we were listed in such letters — without our consent — by name as representatives of intellectual property rights. If the misleading impression results from the fact that these companies may have been commissioned by us to manage their intellectual property rights, we would like to expressly reject any connection with this. The German Patent and Trademark Office has compiled more information including a list of suspected companies here: LINK
The World Intellectual Property Organization WIPO provides further information here: LINK
Please note:
  • Please forward any letters relating to your intellectual property rights (trademarks, designs, patents, utility models) that have been sent to you directly to us for review.
  • Never pay yourself to a company or even to any “real” office if you have already engaged us or another lawyer to manage your rights.
  • Since we are registered as representatives of your property rights with the relevant patent offices, the patent offices must contact us exclusively. As a rule, you should never receive a genuine official letter, certainly not with payment requests. There may be a rare mistake on the part of an office. Should someone write to you directly, please forward this letter to us immediately. If there are deadlines set here, these are not legal.
  • All intellectual property rights that we manage for you are constantly monitored by us with regard to the expiry of deadlines. It is therefore not necessary to make extensions well in advance of the deadline (more than 3 months in advance).
If you have any doubts about the authenticity of a letter, please always contact us for verification.
